Academy of Dance will hold its annual recital entitled “Shop til you Drop” on Friday, May 12th. The show will begin at 6:30 pm. Dancers are to be in their dressing rooms by 5:30 pm. Technical rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at 5:30 pm. Dress rehearsal will be held on Wednesday, May 10th at 5:30 pm. The recital and both rehearsals will be held in the Reidsville High School Auditorium. Both rehearsals are mandatory in order to participate in the recital. Parents are asked to stay and sit with their dancers during rehearsals. Students may leave as soon as they are finished with their dances. Students must sit in their designated rows with their class. Each row will be marked with posters that designate where each class should sit. No dancers should be in the mezzanine or in the balcony during rehearsals. Each class will be assigned a “Helping Mom” for rehearsals. (Any parent who wishes to volunteer to be a Helping Mom please sign up in the lobby at the studio). Helping Moms will help line up the dancers before they go onstage, and help to make sure the dancers all look alike for dress rehearsal. Please cooperate with these Helping Moms and the backstage helpers by staying in your row until you are called. If you have to leave your row for any reason, please let them know.

Recital Friday, May 12
Show starts at 6:30pm
Dancers in their assigned dressing rooms by 5:30
Parents, there will be backstage people assigned to each dressing room to help the dancers with their costumes, etc. This allows the parents to sit in the audience and enjoy the show, and helps eliminate crowded dressing rooms. If you need to come backstage for any reason, please do not get up from your seat in the middle of a dance, wait until the end so as not to disrupt the show or the videotaping of the recital.
* Please be on time and cooperate with the backstage helpers.
** Younger dancers (pre-school, kindergarten, 1st graders) should be picked up from the dressing rooms after their dances are through on Friday night. If you are going to take them to the audience to watch the rest of the show please bring a coverup or a change of clothes. No costume should be in the audience the night of the show.
***Older dancers are NOT ALLOWED in the audience at all on Friday night. DANCERS MUST STAY IN THEIR ASSIGNED DRESSING ROOMS.
Important Things To Remember
* Please Read Carefully *
1. Do not wear underwear with your costumes. If needed use a nude colored bodysuit with clear straps.
2. Do not wear any type of jewelry unless specified as an accessory. No earrings, necklaces, rings, watches, etc.
3. PUT YOUR NAME ON EVERYTHING! (On shoes, tights, costumes, etc.)
4. Hair must be up out of the dancer’s face. A bun for long hair and bangs slicked back, or pulled back in a clip for short hair. It is highly recommended to use a hairnet for buns. It looks very professional if the entire class wears their hair the same way. Hair accessories should all be the same.
5. Bring extra safety pins, bobby pins and wet ones in case of an accident.
6. NO FOOD, DRINKS, OR GUM IN THE AUDITORIUM OR IN THE DRESSING ROOMS. You may eat outside or in the lobby. Please eat dinner before the show on Friday. Absolutely no gum onstage!
7. Costumes are not allowed in the audience on Friday night.
8. No flash photography or videotaping the show on the night of the recital. You may take pictures and videotape the dress rehearsal. A double disk DVD will be available for $35.
9. Dancers taking jazz will be able to participate in the finale at the end of the recital. We will be practicing the finale during “intermission” at both rehearsals. Any dancer participating in the finale will not be allowed to leave the backstage area until the recital is over.
10. Be sure to register for dance classes for the 2006-2007 season!
